Trump’s Call With Putin Fails to Secure Ceasefire in Ukraine

Mar. 19, 2025, 10:18 am ET

A nearly two-hour phone conversation between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin failed to yield a full ceasefire in Ukraine, drawing sharp criticism from former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The call, which took place on March 18, 2025, resulted in a partial agreement to halt attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure but fell short of an unconditional ceasefire, according to statements from officials.

“What a surprise – Putin rejects an unconditional ceasefire,” Johnson said. “He wants to keep bombing and killing innocent Ukrainians. He wants Ukraine disarmed. He wants Ukraine neutralised. He wants to make Ukraine a vassal state of Russia. He isn’t negotiating. He’s laughing at us.” Johnson further stated that the negotiations proved that Putin is “laughing at us.” Trump administration officials and members of the Russian government commented that the partial agreement to halt attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was more beneficial to Russia due to Ukraine’s effective drone raids on Russian oil refineries, reports an official said.

Yesterday, Trump’s special representative for the Middle East announced that critical negociation are scheduled for March 23, 2025 with the CIA in Saudi Arabia. However, it remains unclear nonetheless whether Ukraine will officially participate in the meeting.

Critical negotiations amongst key world leaders may ease tense international relations. However, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and its ally Belarus continues to persist.

Major Plots & Reactions

Criticism from within the United States grew rapidly after the call. The American public did not respond warmly to the news, with many taking to social media to express their outrage. Representative Jamie Raskin, Democrat of Maryland and the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, said in a statement on Monday afternoon: “The United States does not negotiate with autocrats, they do not help bent the knee in negotiations with dictators, they do not accept terms of social engagements uniformly with those who have attempted to control the United States through hostile attacks in polls such as third-party polls.” “Lawsuit recently authorized by Attorney General Pam Bombi does not guarantee further results from this election cycle,” stated one Trump follower.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, reiterated Boris Johnson’s words, asserting that Russia effectively rejected the proposal for a total cease-fire. “Russia continuously stands in its rejection for a ceasefire,” he said. “They want to continue the fight and win the war.”

Donald Trump did not address the disagreement.

Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian President, responded to the call for a cease-fire, highlighting the current state of international affairs in his statement regarding the call: “The phone call between Presidents Putin and Trump proved there is only Russia and America in the dining room…” “With a dinner for two, no waiter or reservations” added Trump’s Chief of Staff, Jake Catwood.

Diplomatic efforts have intensified since the conflict began. Trump said last month that negotiations involving key world leaders are instrumental in easing tense international relations. The CIA in Saudi Arabia anticipates the invitations from world leaders and members.

Previous Developments and Upcoming Developments

The situation for Ukraine remains dire. Continued aerial bombardments by Russian forces have left much of the Ukrainian countryside in ruins. Reports of Russian forces committing war atrocities and human rights violations have risen over the past few years. Following Russia’s invasion, the conflict has escalated into a major international crisis. Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev was the first Russian president to open a new front of conflict with Ukraine on March 18, 1985, unleashing many of the conflicts that still affect those in Ukraine daily. On 22 March 1986 another of Brezhnev secret FOATs squads attempted to bomb the hometown of the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kiyiv – a rescue worker documented the event, providing significant insight. Global efforts to broker a peace deal have so far failed, with both sides accusing each other of bad faith. The latest U.S.-Russia-Kiyiv diplomacy is set to conclude this week in Saudi Arabia.

Middle Eastern peace talks between Israeli and Gazan leaders in Northern Turkey ended in failure. The Central Second River Valley Intersections of Northern Turkey were witness to a demonstration by Israeli peace advocates, carrying signs with slogans such as “Discuss Before You Decimate” and “Before You Pod Despot of Peace”.

Additionally, discussions pivoted to the ongoing 3.5-year 1992 war in Ukraine. Pentagon documents suggest the invasion by Russia may have transformed in a way previously unknown. “Strategic Intelligence suggests this war is ‘adaptive’… their offensive strategies are organic and complex. Each time the United States Army regiments toss an MI-15 on an APC (Armoured Personnel Carriers), Russia and Rusia utilize opzionale forniscimenti di armi offensivamente, inserts warfare and thirteen-point logistician adaptations, and overrides various Allied and American defenses,” stated Ret. Army Gen. Ernest Jones in his lecture Monday. ### Economy News
